María Ángeles Vila Tortosa
María Ángeles Vila Tortosa, born in Valencia in 1978, lives and works between Rome and Valencia. She graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts at the Polytechnic University of Valencia, where she also obtained a doctorate in engraving and a teaching qualification (CAP). She was awarded an Erasmus scholarship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome and the Leonardo da Vinci scholarship at the Roman Art Printmaking Studio "Acquaforte" by Luigi Ferranti.
In her work, she reinterprets specific themes related to the feminine world, such as domestic life, family bonds, motherhood, and caregiving. The artist's preferred medium is engraving, an ancient technique through which she explores themes of memory, feminism, and gender stereotypes. The engravings on paper, with subtle pastel colors, depict the artist's microcosm and transform into floors, books, light boxes, and wooden boxes to create small portable scenographies or large three-dimensional installations. In 2022, she collaborated with Maria Grazia Chiuri for the Dior Cruise Sevilla collection.
